Design A Fish!
Mrs Scott,
Principal Teacher Art, and Mrs Barnes, Science teacher, have been
working collaboratively on an Art/Science Project called ‘Design a
Fish’ with Class 1CR. Throughout, both teachers have been working
closely with the Local Authority Curriculum Support Team, in
particular Jim Scott from Expressive Arts and Seema Sircar from
Science. Lessons were filmed at all stages to show how pupils and
teachers adapted to this cross-curricular way of working. Science
led the teaching of fish and their habitats including a practical
hands-on lesson on dissection. Pupils in Art produced a body of
practical work focusing on different environments and adaptations
and creating and designing a 3D clay model of their Fantasy Fish.
Representatives from Learning and Teaching Scotland visited the
school and talked to several pupils in 1CR about the benefits of
learning across subjects. Feeback from Bartosz in 1CR as follows:
‘I
spoke to people from the government and I worked a lot in groups. It
helped me to learn more as I wasn’t just working by myself. I had a
lot of fun making the 3D clay fish!
