Hazlehead Students take part in
National Pathology Week
To promote a
wider understanding of the work of the Pathologist, a group of 24
S4-6 students were offered the opportunity to hear a talk and
participate in a practical workshop. Dr Lesley Watson, a consultant
Pathologist from Grampian NHS, give a stimulating account of the
perceptions and misperceptions (usually obtained from popular TV
programmes) that the public often have.
She effectively used celebrity figures to relate their commonly
known health circumstances with the pathology they portrayed.
Finally, the pupils were given the opportunity to examine and
compare healthy and diseased slides relevant to the alleged
pathology.
Up to18 different
groups of scientists and medical personnel are involved in the
pathology department and this diversity of occupational
opportunities was found to be a really interesting aspect reflected
in the evaluation. And as seen in the photos, concentrating on
focussing down a microscope can be a tricky activity! |
